Cross Country

We were well represented by eight of our students at the Zone Cross Country today. Everyone ran well and Luka & Ben have qualified for the Canterbury Cross Country, so a special congratulations to them. Our School  Cross Country next week will be on Tuesday afternoon and there will be a note home about it tomorrow.

At my conference last week, the Secretary of Education, Lesley Longstone spoke to us on the day the changes to class sizes were announced.  You can imagine the questions she had to field.  I'm pleased to say she was very receptive to what we had to say and took the time to address our concerns and questions.

In response to the proposed changes in class numbers the Canterbury Primary Principals Association are planning to ask for a moratorium for our region. They believe they have the data to show the greater Christchurch area has enough on its plate coping with the stresses post-earthquake that we need to retain our current class sizes, not increase them.

It will be interesting to see how the Ministry responds.  Often they are seen in a bad light and get a lot of negative publicity but I can say that all dealings I have had with the Ministry of Education as principal have been very positive and helpful.  We have just had a new senior advisor appointed and I rang him today and had a wonderful chat about his role and moving the school forward.  It's encouraging to know that the people in those positions are supportive and interested in helping.
